Background

The College and Graduate School of Arts & Sciences is the foundation upon which the excellence of the University of Virginia rests. The largest of UVA’s schools, A&S educates 70% of all undergraduate students (conferring upwards of 2,500 degrees each year), trains a quarter of the graduate students, appoints 60% of the tenure-track faculty, and houses the core disciplines that form the heart of the University’s academic reputation.

Beyond the College and Graduate School of Arts & Sciences and the Miller Center for Public Affairs, the Democracy Initiative will continue to collaborate closely with other UVA schools and academic units, such as the Frank Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy, the Curry School of Education, the McIntire School of Commerce, the Darden School of Business, and the University of Virginia School of Law, including the Karsh Center for Law and Democracy.
