Seed Funding
The Democracy Initiative was established, in large part, thanks to 17 visionary donors, who together committed a total of $12.9 million to propel UVA’s efforts to advance democracy. Further generous support comes from the Mellon Foundation, and additional gifts.
This support has enabled the Democracy Initiative to access up to $10 million in matching funds from the University’s Strategic Investment Fund.
Moving Forward
Arts & Sciences has made the Democracy Initiative a cornerstone of its upcoming capital campaign and over time expects to raise significant funds in direct support, primarily for endowment, which will provide an even more sustainable base for the Initiative’s future.
